Mexico won coming from behind

MEXICALI, Baja California, May 30, 2008.- Mexico came from behind to defeat Costa Rica in five sets to close the first day of action in Pool A of the Women’s Pan American Cup.

The young Mexican squad won the first set only to see Costa Rica reacting to take the next two. Captain Martha Revueltas led the come back and finally the host team won by score of 25-19, 21-25, 23-25, 25-19, 15-10.

Revueltas led four Mexican players in double figures with 26 points. Zaira Orellana, Migdalel Ruiz and Carolina Carranza had 17, 14 and 10 respectively. Costa Ricans Verania Willis and Karen Cope had 26 and 23.

“We knew it was going to be a very tough match,” said Luis Leon, the Mexican coach. “The first set was in our favour but then we lost the next two because of bad communication, but with a young team these things just happens. I am glad to start with this win.”
